On the North Coast the tide table matters as much as the forecast, whether you’re digging razor clams at Sunset Beach or crossing the bar at the mouth of the Columbia.
Tides
NOAA’s prediction station at Astoria, Tongue Point (9439040) covers the lower river. Find the daily tables here. Seaside and Cannon Beach run a little earlier than Astoria.
Forecast and marine warnings
- NWS Portland handles Clatsop County forecasts, high surf and coastal flood warnings.
- Before crossing, check the Columbia River bar conditions posted by the Coast Guard and the National Data Buoy Center.
- Road closures on US 26, US 30 and US 101: TripCheck.
Razor clams
Shellfish closures change with biotoxin testing. The Oregon Department of Agriculture keeps the current status on its shellfish safety hotline and website. Check it the morning you go.
