Jeffrey Smith has compiled the recent book Astoria, part of the Images of America series by Arcadia Publications.

Lewis  and  Clark  National  Historical  Park,  Fort  Clatsop is pleased to announce  the  next  installment  of  its  In Their Footsteps free speakers series.    The program  is Astoria:  History in Images by Jeffrey Smith on Sunday,  May  20  at  1:00 p.m. in the Netul River Room of the Fort Clatsop visitor center.

Drawing on the more than 23,000 photographs in the Columbia River Maritime Museum’s archives, Jeffrey Smith has compiled the recent book Astoria, part of the Images of America series by Arcadia Publications.  He will share some of the images that, for a variety of reasons, were left out of this book and the stories that go along with these historic photos of Astoria.

History in Images by Jeffrey Smith on Sunday, May 20 at 1:00 p.m. in the Netul River Room of the Fort Clatsop visitor center.

Smith is the curator at the Columbia River Maritime Museum where he has worked for the past 13 years. With a life-long interest in history he graduated with a degree in the subject from Portland State University and taught briefly before entering the museum field 26 years ago.

The book, Astoria is available for purchase at the Lewis & Clark National Park Association bookstore in the visitor center.  Smith will have a book-signing following his presentation.

This  third  Sunday forum is sponsored by the Lewis and Clark National Park Association  and the National Park Service.  These programs are held in the Netul River Room of Fort Clatsop’s visitor center and are free of charge.
