Port of Astoria Commissioner Floyd Holcom is my guest on “What’s Your Story” this week. He discusses building community & business relationships, and the erroneous article written about him called the “Hickson Heist”, and how damaging inaccurate media can be to a community.
Listen to part 1
Listen to part 2
Thanks for the opportunity to listen to the Holcom-Samuelson LOVE FEST.
Good to hear that the commissioners are “five guys”.
Love how Samuelson & Holcom talk in generalities, without specifics about the bad Daily Astorian. What does being a veteran have to do with being a Port Commissioner?
Floyd: I respected you until the meeting in the Astoria library about the Englund Condo project when you stated, actually cried, how necessary riverfront condominiums were for seniors like your mother. I was standing next to you and listened to the bullshit out of your mouth. Then, I found out about you selling land for future phases of the ugly and failed condos by your pier 39 — now the Holcom Hotel. It is obvious you are about the money and not the community. Let’s wall-off the river and create low paying service jobs. Are your kids going to me cleaning rooms at the Holcom Hotel when they grow up?
Floyd: Who writes your inarticulate letters to KAST and the Daily A? You speak much better than than you write. Do yourself a favor, hire a professional to write your letters.
Ann: Speaking of “community”, didn’t the community reject/recall you? And, didn’t the Daily A recommend that you be recalled? So much for an unbiased interview with Holcom.
If Holcom likes Warrenton and its business success, I suggest he MOVE BACK TO A BIG BOX METROPOLITAN AREA. Again its about the money
Floyd is such a thin-skinned cry baby. If Holcom wants a elected public job, and can’t take the heat … GET OUT.
“Building community” means let the good old-boy network do as it wants.
Holcom’s statements that the Daily A is anti-Native American is bullshit. In fact his ramblings are at best slurs against Native Americans. Read what you wrote!!!
Riverbear:
The disrespect you demonstrate in this post is sadly just more of the bullying behavior many have observed. Public assaults by individuals and media that create stories and untruths about those that serve are not in the best interest of our community. We all have to answer our question of “why” we behave as as we do. Stripping someone unjustly of their integrity serves no good purpose. Building community means giving people opportunities to tell their stories free from bullying, and intimidation, that is my “why”, what is yours?
Look, River Bear, or Leon Jackson, you make a lot of statements of clear hatred and personal attacks against me and my family. Its not necessary, Leon. I dont even recall meeting you.
Its obvious that your Undergrad Degree from UC Berkley provided better writing foundation, or maybe your MBA training at UC California was better than mine at PSU, perhaps your time with the IRS, and I’m sure Castro Valley High School (I hope that wasn’t named after Fidel) was probably a little bit better funded than Astoria High, however, you have very little physical impact on my life or the real need to continue to attack me or my family. Reasons I still do not understand.
I realize its challenging to move to a community from California and maybe us locals are easy targets for you, but it really is not necessary as I have done nothing to you.
Stop your personal attacks and spreading falsehoods against me and my family.
Floyd E. Holcom
As suspected this Riverbear/Leon Jackson,(whoever he is/thinks he is) is yet another recent California transplant who has flounced in to this community and is hell bent on informing us just how inferior we are and how marvelously wise he is. Screw those people.
OK Riverbear so given your background one could make assumptions that you have a fair barometer of intelligence, so what’s your deal? Why would you attack people like this? Does the newspaper (and I say that loosely) give you permission to abuse others?, here’s a tip: They do a fine job on their own, they probably don’t need your help.
Anyone who chooses to be anonymous (Riverbear), but throws personal darts at publicly visible people like Floyd Holcom or Ann Samuelson, is phony from the get-go. If Riverbear-from-California or Pluto or wherever-hatched wants to make a point, he, she or it needs to come out from behind whatever rock he, she or it is hiding behind. And then only if he, she or it attempts to contribute to a discussion rather than disgorge four-letter barbs in an effort to be heard. Go join your other anonymous friends at some Occupy Gutter event where you’ll be able to speak their language and discuss the merits of life’s meanings while others pay your way. This doesn’t describe you Riverbear? Well, excuse me, but when you don’t sign your real name in a small town like Astoria, respect isn’t exactly earned. You berate Mr. Holcom for not being able to take the heat, but you don’t even have the guts to admit who you are. Your arguments are as empty as your current resume.
Game, set, match Hyland.
