Activities and Special Events in Astoria Area
The Astoria Recreation division of the Parks Department offers year round special interest classes and events. Activities offered include an after school program, art and craft classes, science classes, life skills classes and much more! For details on specific classes currently being offered, click on Program Guide.

Junior Criminal Justice Series
June 24th 10am-12pm & June 25th 2pm-4pm
Be a crime solver and learn the art of hands-on evidence and information gathering. Information gathered at this class will be used at the Mock Trial.

Chocolate Candy Making
June 27th at 10-11am
Back again by popular demand but in their new location in the Red Buildings at 20 Basin St., the ladies of Columbia Chocolate will be teaching their secrets of making luscious chocolate candy. Students will be able to take home and enjoy the fruits of their labor.

Kid’s Art Camp
July 7th-11th
Your budding Picasso will enjoy this camp where he or she can learn new techniques and be creative. This half-day week long camp will allow young artists to paint, draw and play group games. In addition, projects will include stamp making, book building and tie dying.

Tie Dye
July 7th at 1-3pm
Lean how to tie dye! This class will show you basic techniques, materials, and ideas for future projects. Beginners are encouraged to sign up, however amateurs and notice “tie dyers” are welcome! One t-shirt will be provided, students are allowed to bring additional items on their own.

Babysitters Training
July 11th at 9am-3pm & July 25th at 9am-3pm
Join the American Red Cross for a fun interactive course learning basic first aid, care routines, safe play, safety skills, and how to respond to emergencies. Participants need to bring a sack lunch.

When I’m in Charge
July 21st at 3-5pm and July 28th at 3-5pm
This Red Cross class is a course designed to teach children ages 8-11 how to respond safely to a variety of home alone situations. Youth will form a strong sense of responsibility and confidence from the skills they learn in this course.

Baseball, Softball, Basketball, Soccer, Swimming, Track and Tennis – you name it I’ve played it! With NCAA Collegiate experience in two sports, I would love to help! If you want to develop your athletic skills (in any sport) this is your chance to get that one-on-one attention every athlete deserves to improve their game. Call the Parks Office to set up a time/location/sport! Come alone or come as a group!

Looking for that summer body you might have put off working towards this winter?! Well, it’s not too late! Whether you are looking to bulk up with a weight lifting routine or slim down with an intense cardio session, I’m here to help you reach your goals. We will utilize the Astoria Aquatic Center Fitness Facility and our outdoor surroundings. Call the Parks Office to schedule a convenient time that works for you!

All Comer Track and Field
Tuesdays; July 1st-22nd at 6pm
There will be four All Comer Track and Field Meets this summer on Tuesday evenings beginning at 6pm. Meets will be held at the Astoria High School track and are for all ages who would like to participate.

I get mine from “Clatsop County”, “The Daily Astorian”, “KAST Coastwatch","Peter Huhtala” and of course, “Grass Roots People”.
